What is gold vermeil?

The composition of gold vermeil includes a base metal of 025 sterling silver, with a thick layer of solid gold electroplated over sterling silver. 

The karat of the solid gold must be between 10-24k, & the gold thickness must be no lower than 2.5 microns. This offers a very thick layer of solid gold that will not 'rub off'.

How do I clean it?

We recommend using a gentle polishing cloth on your gold vermeil pieces, ensuring it is clean and dry. 

So, is this the same as solid gold?

No. Gold vermeil is crafted with 14k (solid) gold with a thickness of 2.5 microns on a 925 sterling silver base.

Is gold vermeil hypoallergenic?

Yes! Gold vermeil pieces are made up of precious metals which are hypoallergenic. This should not cause you any reaction. the element that usually gives allergy to jewellery is nickel, and we are happy to say all of Bonito's pieces are nickel free!

Will it tarnish?
