Movies have probably given you the impression that all of the elegant rings out there will magically fit your finger. The truth, though, is that rings are not a one-size-fits-all kind of artisan jewelry.

Nothing feels more like a downer than excitedly wearing a new sparkly ring and finding out that it does not fit. The hassle of spending time, money, and energy on having it readjusted takes away the fun.

Whether you’re buying one for yourself, getting it for someone else, or hinting to another person about it, it’s always smart to know exactly how to measure ring sizes. Here’s a quick guide to help you so you never have to buy the wrong size again.

Converting Your Size From What You Already Know

There are several ways to measure your ring size, such as numerically based on the US chart, which is what we do at Bonito Jewelry. If you already know your ring size in the UK chart, the conversion chart below would help in converting it to the US size.

Measuring Your Finger

If you have completely no idea about your ring size, don’t fret. You can measure your finger with the following steps:

  1. Wrap a strip of paper or string around the finger where you plan to put the ring.
  2. Get the circumference by marking the end and measuring the distance.
  3. Match what you got to the circumference column in the chart above or here.

To make measuring easier, you may use  this paper ring sizer.

Measuring a Ring You Have

If you already have a ring that fits perfectly, use this chart to know its size. Just find the circle that perfectly matches your ring’s inside perimeter.

Trying on the Circles

Using the same chart, you could cut out the circles and try them out to find which one fits your finger best.

Quick Tips in Finding the Right Ring Size

  1. Your dominant hand will likely be a bit bigger, so measure each finger individually.
  2. If you plan to use a piece of paper or string to do the measuring, be sure it doesn’t get loose, but don’t pull it tight either. That would make the ring measurement inaccurate.
  3. Measure more than once for accurate sizing.
  4. The size of your fingers changes throughout the day. If you’re warm, your fingers will be bigger. If you’re cold, they’ll be smaller. We suggest measuring when you’re a little warm.
  5. If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, get the measurement of the widest point and the base of your finger. Get the size that’s between those two measurements.

Finding Fun in Rings
